MediAngels - Story

Founded in 2010, a one of its kind online super specialty consultation network for medical second opinion. Led by IIM Alumni, Dr. Arbinder Singhal and Dr. Debraj Shome.

Client mandate in 2014 – raise awareness of the venture to the investor facing media and the value proposition of the brand to the general public

Challenge – risk of medical fraternity upheaval based on second opinions from MediAngels network, Healthtech as a service low on VC radar in 2010/11

Healthcare a low priority category for media unless big news breaks of corporate M&A, disease outbreaks, etc.

Solution – Challenge the status quo around medical opinions with data-backed information. Spectrum created the biggest news disruptor through a MediAngels led national survey on unwarranted surgeries in India and associated high cost of treatment for patients. The Times of India on Sunday broke the story.

Series of business media interviews including The Economic Times, ET Now and CNBC’s Young Turks with promoters sharing the panel with Helion Ventures

Pan India stories in general interest media on the need for second opinion and MediAngels headstart in this category. Both English and vernacular languages

Outcome – high visibility for the brand that MediAngels leveraged in investor pitching and attracting talent. Follow up models along similar lines by some of the current online consulting ventures based on MediAngels market creation and disruption
